Syracuse fires Babers after 8 seasons

Syracuse dismissed head coach Dino Babers after eight seasons, the school announced Sunday.

A defeat to Georgia Tech on Saturday dropped Syracuse to 5-6 with one game remaining.

The Orange won the first four games of the season - outscoring their opponents 177 to 43 - before losing six of their next seven matchups. Syracuse has also gone 1-6 in conference play.

Babers has been at the helm since 2016, producing a 45-55 record. He took home ACC Coach of the Year honors in 2018 after leading Syracuse to a 10-3 mark and a bowl win. However, he has only had one winning campaign since.

The Orange also started the 2022 season strong, winning their first six games. However, the team lost six of its last seven games, including the Pinstripe Bowl to Minnesota.

Tight ends coach Nunzio Campanile will be Syracuse's interim coach for the regular-season finale against Wake Forest. He previously held the same title with Rutgers for eight games in 2019 after Chris Ash was fired.

Babers spent two seasons in charge of Bowling Green State before being hired by Syracuse.
